The private land at Torrent Bay is unusual as it is surrounded by national park. The Abel Tasman National Park is the only national park to have residential housing inside its boundaries. There is no road access, so homeowners have to come in by boat or on foot. Even though Torrent Bay has a number of houses there are no shops or services at the bay. The Torrent Bay residents are actively involved in conservation to rid the area of plant pests and animals. At the back of Torrent Bay is a large tidal lagoon which can be walked across at low tide to save time walking to and from Anchorage, or there is a high tide alternative when this route cannot be accessed.

Sandfly Bay and Falls River are beautiful spots. On a high tide (and time dependent) you can go up Falls River and see the people walking across the Swing Bridge. Your walk starts from Bark Bay past the Falls River Bridge, through Torrent Bay and Anchorage. In the last part of the trip you walk past some of the Abel Tasman’s most scenic beaches.

      Cruise on Aqua Taxi to Torrent Bay, walk to Onetahuti Beach and meet the Aqua Taxi again. Return to Marahau/Kaiteriteri via the Seal Colony. This walking section of track is considered the most picturesque section of the park. The track crosses the only swing bridge in the park - 47 m in length - Falls River Swing Bridge. At Tonga Quarry you can see still remnants of the quarry and see leftover drilled slabs of granite. Your skipper will stop at Tonga or Pinnacle Island to view the seals after picking you up at Onetahuti.
