2 Day Abel Tasman Adventure$132.00

Experience Abel Tasman Coastal Track up Close and Personal! This leisurely two-day unguided journey gives you a big serve of the Abel Tasman.

Start the day with an exhilarating Aqua Taxi trip into Tonga Island Marine Reserve to visit the New Zealand fur seals.

Your unguided walk from Onetahuti to Anchorage (5-6 hours 17.8km) is full of stunning scenery, this section of track is considered the most picturesque section of the park, the track crosses The Falls River Swingbridge - 47 m in length. Your final destination for the evening is Anchorage. After a memorable day of walking, enjoy a hot shower, dinner and relaxed stay on board the Abel Tasman Aquapackers (dorm accommodation).

After breakfast warm up on day two with a leisurely walk along the southern end of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track discovering scenic outlooks, clear streams, native bush and gorgeous beaches. Incredible views over Astrolabe Islands and Anchorage make great photo opportunities before reaching your final destination - Marahau.

Note: This trip can run in reverse depending on time of booking.

Check in: 8:30am (Summer: 1st October – 30th April)

Age: Minimum 14 years, under the age of 16 years need to be accompanied by an adult. $132.00 per person.

Child fares apply for water taxi travel only and are not available for kayaking options the Abel Tasman Adventure & Abel Tasman Golden Future.

Prior Experience: Not necessary

Food: Includes evening meal day one and breakfast day two. Please bring lunch on day one and two along with any other snacks you may like along the way.

Walk: Onetahuti to Anchorage 17.8km (5- 6 hours). Anchorage to Marahau 12.4 (4 hours).

Aqua Taxi: 1 Aqua Taxi transfer

Bus: Additional $30 Nelson return or Free from Motueka/

Accommodation: Abel Tasman AquaPackers – dorm style accommodation, upgrade to private cabin available on request. Aquapackers provide all your bedding, a delicious BBQ dinner in the evening and basic breakfast in the morning.

There is no alcohol sale on board the vessel however you are more than welcome to bring your own or help yourself to complimentary tea or coffee.

  • 1 Aqua Taxi from Marahau & Kaiteriteri to Anchorage

    You will pass several off-shore islands which provide a protected habitat for native wildlife. This stretch of water is called the Astrolabe Roadstead named by Dumont Durville. Roadstead was a term early seafarers used to describe safe sheltered waters.

  • 2 Aqua Taxi from Anchorage to Bark Bay

    This stretch of coastline can only be viewed from the water. You will see lots of interesting rocky outcrops and rock formations. Sandfly Bay and Falls River are beautiful spots. On a high tide (and time dependent) you can go up Falls River and see the people walking across the Swing Bridge.

  • 3 Aqua Taxi from Bark Bay to Onetahuti

    You are entering the middle of the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. You will see Tonga Island prominent in the distance which has one of the largest seal populations in the park. All of our boats hold a marine mammal viewing permit - so we can view all marine life from a distance of 20 metres. We stop at Tonga or Pinnacle Island and spend time viewing the seals

  • 4 Walk from Onetahuti to Bark Bay

    The walk between Bark Bay and Onetahuti Beach will take about 2 hrs and is 6.1kms in length. Bark Bay got its name from the time when trees there were originally stripped of their bark to be used in a Nelson tannery. Onetahuti Beach looks out across Tonga Bay. Tonga is the Maori word for south and is also the name of the Marine Reserve; the third in New Zealand to be next to a national park.

  • 5 Walk from Bark Bay to Anchorage

    The section of track between Bark Bay & Anchorage Bay is the most walked on this coast. From Bark Bay to Torrent Bay takes about 2.5 hrs and is 7.8kms. The walk from Bark Bay to Anchorage is around 3.5 hrs and is 12kms. This section has some beautiful stands of large trees including Rimu, Totara and Rata. You pass through Torrent Bay settlement, this is the largest public settlement in the Park, it is mostly holiday homes.

  • 6 Stay overnight at Anchorage with Aquapackers

Abel Tasman Aquapackers is the only floating backpackers accommodation in New Zealand's Abel Tasman National Park. We are situated in Anchorage Bay, the middle of the national park. Aquapackers offers dorm style accommodation with upgrade to private cabin available on request. Aquapackers provide all your bedding, a delicious BBQ dinner in the evening and basic breakfast in the morning.

  • 7 Walk from Anchorage to Marahau & Kaiteriteri

    The section of track between Marahau - Anchorage takes about 3.5 hours and is 11.5 kms. Marahau is named after its fertile gardens and Anchorage a safe haven for boats. This stretch allows glimpses of the coastline and access to the beautiful beaches in the Astrolabe. The short 45 minute Pitt Head Walk from Anchorage leads to Pitt Head, and ancient Maori Pa. You can do this walk as a loop or one-way from either Te Puketea or Anchorage.
