Paddle & Walk - Two Day Kayak & Walk$261.00

Priceless! Start the day with an exhilarating Aqua Taxi trip into Tonga Island Marine Reserve.

Your guided kayaking begins with a visit to the NZ fur seals on Tonga Island. Explore Tonga Arches and the stunning sculptured granite headlands before relaxing and refuelling with a hearty kiwi picnic lunch on a beautiful beach. After lunch discover tidal lagoons and forest fringed beaches of this stunning coastline, before sailing into Anchorage with the sea breeze behind you.

After a memorable day of kayaking, enjoy a hot shower, dinner and relaxed stay onboard the Abel Tasman Aquapackers (dorm accommodation).

After breakfast warm up on day two with a leisurely walk along the southern end of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track discovering scenic outlooks, clear streams, native bush and gorgeous beaches.  Incredible views over Anchorage and the Astrolabe Islands make great photo opportunities before reaching your final destination - Marahau.

Duration: 2 Days

Check in: 8:30am (Summer: 1st October – 30th April)

Age: Minimum 14 years, under the age of 16 you need to be accompanied by an adult on a 1 to 1 ratio.

Prior Experience: Not necessary

Food: Semi catered, includes lunch day one, evening meal day one and breakfast day two. Please bring lunch on day two along with any other snacks you may like along the way.

Walk: Anchorage – Marahau 12.4 km (4 hours)

Paddling: Around 12km Approximately 4.5 hours including breaks – guided

Aqua Taxi: 1 Aqua Taxi transfer

Bus: Additional $30 Nelson return or Free from Motueka

Accommodation: Abel Tasman AquaPackers – dorm style accommodation, upgrade to private cabin available on request. Aquapackers provide all your bedding, a delicious BBQ dinner in the evening and basic breakfast in the morning. There is no alcohol sale on board the vessel however you are more than welcome to bring your own or help yourself to complimentary tea or coffee.

  • 1 Aqua Taxi from Marahau & Kaiteriteri to Anchorage

    You will pass several off-shore islands which provide a protected habitat for native wildlife. This stretch of water is called the Astrolabe Roadstead named by Dumont Durville. Roadstead was a term early seafarers used to describe safe sheltered waters.

    Places of interest: Kaiteriteri, Aqua Taxi Marahau Base, Aqua Taxi Kaiteriteri Base, Marahau, Split Apple Rock, Anchorage, Te Pukeatea Bay, Adele Island, Fisherman Island, Torrent Bay

  • 2 Aqua Taxi from Anchorage to Bark Bay

    This stretch of coastline can only be viewed from the water. You will see lots of interesting rocky outcrops and rock formations. Sandfly Bay and Falls River are beautiful spots. On a high tide (and time dependent) you can go up Falls River and see the people walking across the Swing Bridge.

  • 3 Aqua Taxi from Bark Bay to Onetahuti

    You are entering the middle of the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. You will see Tonga Island prominent in the distance which has one of the largest seal populations in the park. All of our boats hold a marine mammal viewing permit - so we can view all marine life from a distance of 20 metres. We stop at Tonga or Pinnacle Island and spend time viewing the seals

  • 7 Walk from Anchorage to Marahau & Kaiteriteri

    The section of track between Marahau - Anchorage takes about 3.5 hours and is 11.5 kms. Marahau is named after its fertile gardens and Anchorage a safe haven for boats. This stretch allows glimpses of the coastline and access to the beautiful beaches in the Astrolabe. The short 45 minute Pitt Head Walk from Anchorage leads to Pitt Head, and ancient Maori Pa. You can do this walk as a loop or one-way from either Te Puketea or Anchorage.
